Current Project Status
The Open Data & Knowledge Graph project strengthens the data-based infrastructure of German tourism. The aim is to provide standardized, interoperable and openly usable tourism content.
The project is jointly supported by the German National Tourist Board (GNTB), the state tourism organizations (LTO) and the Magic Cities. The technical basis is the Germany Knowledge Graph as a central open data hub. It bundles tourism data, links it semantically and makes it available in a structured form for partners, platforms and digital applications.
The following timeline shows the current developments and milestones since the start of the project in 2018.
Project History
February 2026
European further development of the ODTA
The ODTA continues to develop its organizational structure and intensifies Europe-wide cooperation on tourism data standards. A total of 24 domain specifications were developed on the basis of schema.org.
Goal:
Strengthen European interoperability and establish structured data as the basis for AI applications and international visibility.
Result:
The ODTA is consolidating its role as a European standardization initiative for semantic tourism data.
June 2023
Milestone 3 Completion Knowledge Graph
The completion of the Knowledge Graph for German tourism has taken place with milestone 3.
Goal: By milestone 3, the Knowledge Graph is ready for production. There is a continuous expansion and optimization of the data sets, as well as the integration of additional partners.

May 2023
Retrieve test data Knowledge Graph
Test accesses for using the Knowledge Graph have been available since April.
Goal: Gain initial experience with open data in your own application.
Result: Over thirty registrations in the first few weeks.
November 2021
Milestone 2 Implementation of Knowledge Graph
Milestone 2 was successfully reached in the implementation of the Knowledge Graph for German tourism.
Goal: With milestone 2, five additional domains are prepared, the basic functionalities are completed and a first test application is implemented.
Result: The additional domains accommodations, gastronomy, cities and offers were prepared, push interfaces were set up and a first application was developed.
